Since 1883

One school that became two, still one community.

Belize Elementary School and Belize High School share a history, a mission, and a campus philosophy — even though BES came first, by more than a century.

A message from the Principal

Welcome to BES and BHS.

Welcome to Belize Elementary School and Belize High School, where our “commitment to excellence” resonates in all we do as we develop learners today and leaders tomorrow. Our goal is to provide the students entrusted to us with a love of learning, a quest to enthusiastically explore, and to become responsible global citizens.

We provide an environment where students are continuously stimulated and inspired, nurtured and loved, where expectations are high as we encourage our students to always strive for the best.

At BES and BHS, we embrace this very important challenge in our ever-changing world, and we do so with determination, passion, dedication and love and respect for Christian values and morals.

On behalf of our Board of Governors, our dedicated administration, teaching staff and support staff, we welcome you to explore our website. We welcome you to visit our campus where you can see for yourself where dreams can become reality.

God bless!!

Yours in Education,
M. Sharp (Mrs.), Principal

Mission

“To be a vehicle of professional values and behaviors that provide opportunities for achieving outstanding educational excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Athletics, and Mathematics.”

Vision

“An innovative physical space and culture with an engaged and supportive community that graduates leaders who are critical-thinking Belizean catalysts that positively impact the world.”

Our history

From Saint Catherine to two campuses.

1883

Founded as Saint Catherine Elementary School — “the oldest Catholic educational institution in Belize.”

1984

Governance shifts to a Board of Governors as the Sisters of Mercy move their focus to elderly care; the school relocates with government support.

January 1993

Renamed Belize Elementary School, marking its official break from the Sisters of Mercy. A new facility is built through June 1994.

September 2010

Belize High School opens — 32 students, six teachers, and a lot of parental support — as BES's secondary campus, fifteen years in the planning.

Today

The only private institution in Belize combining a college-preparatory track with a technology-integrated curriculum, still built around the same student-centric philosophy.

What makes us different

American curriculum, Belizean culture.

BHS describes itself as the only private educational institution in Belize with a college preparatory-oriented, technology-integrated curriculum — built on a student-centric education that balances social, emotional, and physical well-being.
